Ilay’s work was inspired by his great-grandmother’s photo album.
When Ilay was small his grandmother would tell him stories about her mother and how she escaped from Poland when she was sixteen with the photo album, and then married in Israel and helped found Kibbutz Hashlosha. Ilay brought the black-and-white photos to life by using color. In this way he brings past and present together, just as Grandmother Batya forged the connection between him and the various generations in the family through her album.
