My Family Story

in memory of Manuel Hirsch Grosskopf

Join the journey to our roots – you are part of the story! The “My Family Story” program in memory of Manuel Hirsch Grosskopf is a flagship program of The Koret International School for Jewish Peoplehood – the educational division of ANU – Museum of the Jewish People, the largest Jewish museum in the world. The annual program, suitable for children aged 9 – 14 from Jewish schools, invites them to explore their family story artistically and creatively and turns their heritage project into a part of a museum display. The projects of the program participants do not only tell their personal family stories; they also tell the unique and ongoing story of the Jewish people, a greater story deeply rooted in a chain of generations.

The program enables students to explore and discover the Jewish elements of their identity, to get to know their family members who live in Israel and in the world, to explore stories that have been shared in their family for generations, to embrace their roots, and to deepen the connection to their family and the Jewish people. As part of the annual program, the students collect and record information about their family history by conducting interviews with relatives, creating a family tree, and carrying out research. When the students finish collecting all the information, they interpret their family story through a digital art project. The program “My Family Story,” initiated 30 years ago, has been launched in 26 countries around the world. So far, more than 80,000 Jewish students from more than 200 Jewish educational institutions have participated in the program.
