I connect with my family and my grandfather, Yerachmiel Shmertz, through reading books, studying Torah and getting to know Hebrew literature. We are the people of the book and in my family books are a very significant thing. Grandfather Yerachmiel was spared his life thanks to reading. He traveled by train to Lodz, Poland, and was immersed in the book he read. He missed the announcement that the train would not reach Poland and the passengers who wanted to get off at Lodz had to change trains. That's how he found himself in Georgia. In the meantime, all his relatives were put into the ghetto and perished. Grandpa Yerahmiel enlisted in the army and then married, but he never forgot his relatives. This is the reason I chose to design the display in the form of a book in Hebrew.
When I read a book about the Holocaust, I imagine Grandpa Yerachmiel and his relatives. I will forever keep the memories and pass them on to my descendants.
