I made a set of resin building blocks representing my Jewish family history. The blocks come in various shapes and sizes, each representing a specific member of my family. Some blocks are clear and filled with a unique object that represents that person. For example, my great-grandfather, the jeweller, is filled with ring, while the block representing my grandmother, is filled with a set of candlesticks. Other blocks are coloured, representing the diverse and colourful Jewish history of different generations, both good and bad. Building blocks represent the building blocks of life as each block shows a basic unit that can be combined with others to create something more complex and meaningful. When building with blocks, the order and arrangement of the blocks is important to ensure stability and structure, just as each generation relies on the knowledge and experiences of the previous generation.Together, all these blocks tell the story of my family and our place in the larger Jewish community.
