For my project I built a guitar out of cardboard. It represents how music connected my grandfather to his Jewish heritage. My grandfather grew up knowing that he was Jewish but wasn't brought up in a religious home. When he got older he visited Israel, where he met Rabbi Shlomo Carlebach who tought him about Judaism through his music. Shlomo's music touched his neshama (soul) and he stayed in Israel for many years where he became a Rabbi, married my grandmother and raised 8 children. I painted the sides of my guitar blue because when my grandmother talks about my grandfather she likes to mention his beautiful, soft and loving blue eyes. Blue is also the color of water, to which the Torah is compared, and my grandfather loved to learn Torah.
