I chose to pass along my family story through a food receipe that was passed down in our family. A delicious dish that my great-great-grandmother used to make for my grandmother when she was a child. The origin of 'Rokot Chromfeli' - is from Hungary where my grandmother was born. 'Rokot Chromfeli' is the name of the dish in Hungarian which translates to 'Layers of Potatoes'. The food is eaten as a side dish to the meal. I remember myself as a little girl standing in my grandmother's kitchen, on a small stool, watching her from the side, as she prepared it. I enjoyed, and I still enjoy, standing next to her in the kitchen and watching her prepare this food. Step after step after step, especially when it comes to cutting the hard-boiled eggs. My grandmother has a sharp knife reserved for cutting the hard-boiled eggs. When I was little I thought my grandmother was a magician because she managed to cut the eggs into thin slices and they didnt fall apart. 'Rokot Chromfeli' is based on three main things: potatoes, hard-boiled eggs and sour cream. I would like to eat it every day. It is served hot in a glass dish. My family and friends also enjoy it, as well as very small children. I am happy to learn to cook dishes from my grandmother, which she loved as a child and those that have been passed down from generation to generation, it gives continuity and life to things that were once loved. I also recommend you try it and hope you enjoy it too.
