The Hasson family can trace itself back to the Jews deported from Spain in 1492. The family went to Italy and lived there for three hundred and fifty years. From there the family moved to Lebanon, and finally to Damascus, where they remained until their immigration to Israel. The family had a private synagogue in their large house, which had three Torah scrolls.
In 1994, after much effort, with the help of the Mossad and other entities, the family managed to transfer two Torah scrolls to New York to their grandfather's cousin. A year later, the third and smallest scroll arrived in Israel. It was examined and found to be kosher. Soon Gil will celebrate his Bar Mitzva and read his Torah portion from this book. He is the first grandchild in the family to have this privilege.
Gil created a model of the small scroll from cardboard and wood. Inside is a scroll that details the family history and the history of the Torah scrolls.
