The Story of David Joseph

Avigail Ben Shmuel's My Family Story Project, "The story of David Joseph"

My art project is based on a story that happened to my father's uncle, David Yossi. 51 years ago in the Yom Kippur War he fought and was captured in Syria. David Yossi was (and still is) an artist who deals with many different types of art. At the beginning of David Yossi's stay in captivity, he was alone in an underground cell. After a while he was transferred to a cell above the ground with about 30 other people. There was a problem of boredom. David Yossi decided to find a solution to the problem. He took a cheese box to make cards in a rectangular shape. David Yossi took some of the charcoal and mixed it with water, and thus created ink to draw shapes on the cards and thus created a stack of playing cards. He brought them to his friends in the cell, and said that there he discovered that "in every adult there is a child hiding". He created a game for the Hanukkah holiday and a spinning wheel from a piece of soap.
